Popular 'e-waste' recycling set for May 13

Last year's electronics waste recycling project organized by the Morris Area School District's Service Learning students was a success, with Stevens County residents bringing in tons of old televisions, computers and other "e-waste" to the collection site at Morris Area Elementary School. This year's drop-off is 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on May 13. Sun Tribune file photo.

Can't get that upstairs sewing room organized or the basement "man cave" finished because your rooms are filled with old TVs, stereos and computers?

Once again, the Morris Area School District Student Energy Leadership Team and Stevens County have your solution.

For the second year, the district's Service Learning program has organized an electronics waste recycling program. Stevens County residents can dispose of old electronics devices free at the Morris Area Elementary School from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., on Wednesday, May 13.

The free recycling includes computers, televisions and anything that can be plugged into a computer or TV. Traffic will be directed to the north parking lot of the school, located at 153 Columbia Ave., in Morris.

Last year's e-waste recycling drop-off was a huge success -- huge, as in a full semi-trailer and nine roll-off containers full of electronics. Traffic at times stretched out of the Morris Area Elementary School parking lot and down the hill on Columbia Avenue.

See a complete list of items at the bottom of this story. Lists also are available at the Morris Community Education Office, the Morris Area High School Office, and at Morris City Hall.

Jack's Recycling, of Alexandria, will take the items to its reclamation center, and assured the group organizing the event that very little isn't recycled, said Cheryl Kuhn, coordinator of the Service Learning Program.

Volunteers are welcome and can contact Kuhn at (320) 585-2231, or by email at this address:
