Clean Energy events in Morris on Earth Day

Are you interested in current methods of building green homes, or would you like to reduce energy costs in your own home?

If so, you are invited to a free, daylong Clean Energy Forum at the Prairie Inn in Morris on April 22, which is Earth Day.

The forum features speakers with expertise in green building and energy conservation, local clean energy displays, and chances to win a free Clean Energy site evaluation for your home or business. The City of Morris and the School Property Redevelopment Committee in partnership with Stevens FORWARD! and the West Central Regional Partnership, are coordinating this event.

Activities start with a Green Builder's Workshop from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. targeted at builders, suppliers, developers, and others in the Morris and the surrounding region. Speakers from Dovetail Partners and the U of M's Center for Sustainable Building Research will discuss green building techniques and programs, opportunities for local economic development, and ways to reduce the negative impacts of building construction.

Exhibits on clean energy products will be displayed. A discussion identifying local issues surrounding green building and to address specific questions, concerns, recommendations, and the future horizon for housing in Morris and the surrounding area will be featured.

"Incentives Available NOW for Residential Clean Energy Projects" from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. will be hosted by Stevens FORWARD! and the West Central Regional Partnership.

Staff from the Clean Energy Resource Team will provide an overview of the energy incentives available in the federal stimulus bill and other programs.

Speakers will also discuss ways that individuals can implement energy efficiency measures and, wind, solar and geothermal systems in their own homes. Also during this session, five attendees will each win a free clean energy site evaluation for their home or business.

Participants may attend one or both sessions. Refreshments will be provided, and a buffet dinner will be available poolside for a cost between the two sessions, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact Barb Hesse at (320) 589-6451.
