Tigers clinch conference title

Morris Area improves to 18-3 overall with wins over BOLD, North Sargent, and Yellow Medicine East. The two West Central Conference South victories help the Tigers cinch at least a share of the title. At 13-2 in the conference, the Tigers lead defending champion Montevideo by two and a half games. A Thunder Hawk loss in any of their three remaining league games will give Morris Area the crown outright.

Lincoln Arnold recorded a double double to help the Tigers to a 58-46 win at BOLD Thursday.

The Tigers were shooting at 35.7 percent (20-56) overall and were 17-of-26 at the free-throw line.

The Warriors were hitting 39.5 percent and were 8-of-11 at the line.

Arnold led the Tigers with 25 points, Jackson Henrich added 12, and Cory Hennen chipped in 10, including the team's only three-pointer.

Also scoring for the Tigers were Chris Scott with eight, Taylor Nohl with two, and Tyler Meichsner with one.

Arnold's 13 rebounds included 10 offensive boards. Eric Riley and Henrich each grabbed five.

Both Arnold and Meichsner dished out three assists and recorded two steals apiece.

North Sargent 60

The Tigers made up a cancelled tournament game in Wahpeton Saturday, defeating North Sargent, N.D. in the 16th annual North Dakota State College of Science Basketball Bonanza.

Using the quarter system in North Dakota, the Tigers held a 50-36 lead after three quarters and held off a run by North Sargent, which outscored Morris 24-13 in the fourth.

The Tigers were shooting at 53.8 percent (28-52), while North Sargent was hitting 39.6 percent (21-53).

At the free-throw line, the Tigers were 5-of-12, compared to 14-of-20 for North Sargent.

Three Tigers were in double digits on the scoring column again. Arnold led the with 20 points, Jackson had 15, and Scott added 12.

Also scoring for the Tigers were Hennen with five, Nohl and Riley with four apiece, and Meichsner with three.

Both Meichsner and Hennen hit a three-point basket.

Henrich grabbed six rebounds.

Hennen dished out a team-high five assists and Nohl recorded four.

Hennen was the steal leader with three.

Twelve players scored at least a point on Parents' Night Monday, as all five seniors started for the Tigers.

The Tigers were shooting 43.5 percent (27-62) from the floor.

The Sting hit 40 percent (20-50).

At the free-throw line the Tigers were 12-of-17, while the Sting were only 4-of-8.

The Tigers outrebounded YME 41-25.

Riley led the team with 13 points. Meichsner added 11, including a three-pointer.

Also scoring were Arnold with nine, Henrich and Scott with eight each, Daniel Tiernan with five, Nohl with four, Hennen with a three-pointer, Matt Wulf, Josh Love, and Travis Rinkenberger with two apiece, and Grant Gagner with one.

Nohl led the Tigers with eight rebounds. Henrich grabbed seven.

Henrich was the assist leader with four.

Scott recorded four steals, while Hennen had three.
