Dilworth man found frozen stiff in vehicle in ditch dies at hospital

MOORHEAD - A man found partially frozen in a snowbound vehicle north of Moorhead on Thursday has died, Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist said.

Bergquist said 43-year-old Craig Glock of Dilworth died about 6 p.m. Thursday at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. His body was taken to the Ramsey County (Minn.) Medical Examiner for an autopsy, he said.

The sheriff's office received a call about a possible dead person about 8:45 a.m., and deputies found Glock's vehicle in a ditch in the 6300 block of 28th Street North.

Glock's last known contact with people was when he rented a video at Cash Wise in Moorhead at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a receipt found in the vehicle, Bergquist said.

Authorities are still trying to determine whether Glock had an apartment in the area, Bergquist said. A video player was found in the vehicle, he said.

"There was some kind of appearance that he may have been living in his car, too," he said.

Glock had last used his cell phone on Jan. 11, Bergquist said.

"So, we're assuming he didn't have a whole lot of friends here," he said.

Glock apparently spent a lot of time in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, and family members in Colorado were contacted about his death, he said.

Glock's limbs appeared to be frozen solid and his heartbeat was nearly undetectable when deputies found him, Bergquist said.

Because of his condition, Glock was unable to talk to investigators, Bergquist said.

Bergquist said it appeared Glock's vehicle had driven straight off the road into the ditch. He doesn't know how long the vehicle was stuck in the snow.

The temperature in the Fargo-Moorhead area was about 8 degrees just before midnight Wednesday, said Tom Grafenauer, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, N.D.

The area's low temperature for the night - 1 below - was registered between 6 and 7 a.m., Grafenauer said.

The temperature was 2 above at 9 a.m., he said.

Anyone with information about Glock is asked to call the Clay County Sheriff's Office at (218) 299-5151.
