Girls stay unbeaten in WCCS

Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta survived in overtime Friday night at Yellow Medicine East to stay undefeated in the West Central Conference south with a 62-59 victory.

"This was a very exciting game and both teams had chances to win in regulation," said coach Ken Gagner. "We were fortunate in OT to jump up by four points off of two Nelson free throws and a Rentz field goal and then we just held on.

"With six minutes to go in regulation we were down eight and that's when senior forward Megan Dierks hit her first two three-point attempts of the year," said Gagner.

"It once again shows the balance on this team and the overtime victory shows the balance this year in the conference.

"We were very happy to leave Granite Falls with a hard earned victory," added Gagner.

The Tigers were shooting at 44.2 percent and hit a season-high seven three-point baskets to help the cause.

Dierks led the team with 16 points. Nicole Gillespie and Mary Rentz had 12 apiece.

Also scoring were Jenna Nelson with eight, Stefanie Strobel with seven, Heather Gagner with six, and Kelsey Amundson with one.

Dierks, Gagner, and Nelson hit two three-pointers each, while Rentz hit the seventh.
