Tiger girls stay undefeated

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta girls' basketball team finished off the 2008 schedule with a perfect 6-0 record, defeating West Central Conference South opponent Lac qui Parle Valley Thursday at home.

"We started off the game hot as we hit 13 of our first 20 shots. (65 percent)," said coach Ken Gagner. "It's a good thing we did because LqPV was also shooting the ball well.

"The Eagles have three players (Micaela Erickson, Andi Rheingans, and Whitley Strei) that are really tough to stop," added Gagner. "Fortunately for us we were able to keep the rest of their team from doing any damage and the way our squad was shooting we were just a tough team to beat.

"The fact that we have so many different girls that can push the ball and put it in the net makes this group fun to watch," added Gagner. "This was a great way to go into the holiday break as we now wait until Jan. 6 for our next action."

Four Tigers scored in double figures, including Megan Dierks with 17 points, Stefanie Strobel with 11, and Mary Rentz and Nicole Gillespie with 10 apiece.

Jenna Nelson, Heather Gagner, and Alissa Melberg each added eight points.

Also scoring for the Tigers were Kelly Ritter with five and Kelsey Amundson with two.

Dierks also led in rebounding grabbing eight boards. Melerg had six.

Nelson dished out seven assists. Amundson recorded six assists.
