Tigers hit the mats in Morris

Tiger Josh Nelson gets control of his Minneota opponent Tuesday at Morris Area.

The Tigers broke out the competition mats Tuesday at the Morris Area High School Gym. The Morris Area/Hancock/ Chokio-Alberta wrestling team dropped the home opener to a strong Minneota team 54-18.

The Tigers gave up 24 points with open weights at 130 pounds, 140, 145, and 160, due to injuries and inexperience.

The Tigers got on the board at 135 pounds when Josh Nelson won a 5-2 decision over Alex Lessman.

The next Tiger wrestler on the mat, Tanner Berning, picked up six points pinning Justin Myhre in 4:34.

At 215 pounds, Tiger Zach Gibson won a 13-8 decision over Justin Fox.

Wrestling at 285 pounds, Jeff Knobloch pinned Jordan Longtin for another six Tiger points.

Other Tigers wrestling included eighth grader Aaron Wehking at 103. Wehking lost by technical fall to Dillon Guttormsson in the third period.

At 112 Tony Domnick dropped a 17-3 major decision to Minneota's Isaac Josephson.

Morris Area seventh grader Jordan Thooft lost by fall to Dallas Muhl.

Tim Ostby dropped a 9-5 decision to Viking Beau Buysse.

At 171 Ryan Beyer lost by fall in the third period to Minneota's Josh VanOverbeke.

Wade Ehlers, wrestling for the Tigers at 189 pounds, lost by fall to Victor Montelongo.
