Gators break school record at Section 6A

Paige Entzi advanced to the state meet and the 400-yard freestyle relay team broke a Minnewaska-Morris record this past weekend at the Section 6A girls' swimming and diving meet in Sartell.

The relay team of Tiana Barsness, Kelsey Greenwaldt, Laura Moe and Entzi swam the 400 free in 4:01.73. The old record of 4:03.85 was set by Tess Cotter, Alison Moore, Dani Boutain and Laura Moe.

Entzi took second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.27, which qualified her to compete this weekend at the 2008 Swim and Dive Championships.

Overall the Gators placed ninth of 12 teams with 94 points.

"The girls worked hard this season and we moved up three spots to ninth place," said coach Linda Hoffmann. "It is something to build on for next year."

A number of other Gators qualified in Friday's preliminary races to swim in the finals on Saturday.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Entzi, Natalie Holte, Brittany Opdahl and Bridget Opdahl took eighth place with a time of 2:04.73.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Entzi finished 13th in 27.19. Bridget Opdahl took 15th in 27.45.

Tiana Barsness finished 16th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.88.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay the team of Barsness, the Opdahls, and Laura Moe finished seventh in 1:51.70.
