Cougars wrap up season
The University of Minnesota, Morris defeated Crown 3-1, but fell to Presentation and Northwestern in five sets each, to wrap up the 2008 volleyball season.
The Cougars picked up wins in the first two games 25-13 and 25-19 at Presentation Wednesday, but the Saints took the final three 25-14, 26-24, and 15-12 for the UMAC win.
Alison Pippo recorded 22 kills for the Cougars.
Natalie Thomas added 12 kills and 25 digs.
Colleen Hermes led in the dig column with 27. She also recorded four ace serves.
Sam Pfannenstein led the Cougars with 43 set assists, along with 14 digs.
Briana Czer had 18 digs.
In their final two matches of the season, the Cougars opened the weekend with a victory over Crown College by scores of 25-19, 25-18, 18-25, and 25-15.
Pippo led the Cougars with 14 kills.
Pfannenstein had 37 set assists for the Cougars, along with 10 digs.
Hermes led the team with 18 digs. She also had three ace serves.
Lacey Albers also had three ace serves.
Thomas had 12 digs for the Cougars.
The Cougars fought hard against conference leading Northwestern Saturday afternoon, but dropped the match with a 19-17 score in the fifth set.
The Cougars jumped out to a lead with a 24-26 win in the first set, dropped the next two by scores of 25-9 and 25-14, and forced the fifth game with a 20-25 comeback in the fourth set.
Czer had a double double with 17 kills and 11 digs.
Pippo added 12 kills for the Cougars.
Pfannenstein recorded 36 set assists, along with 10 digs.
Hermes and Thomas led in the dig column with 18 and 17, respectively.
