Morris Area drops out of Section 3AA tournament

The volleyball season at Morris Area came to a close Friday when the Tigers were eliminated from the Section 3AA tournament by Montevideo in four sets at Granite Falls.

The Tigers won the first game 25-23, before the momentum changed to the Thunder Hawks' favor with with scores of 25-10, 25-17, and 25-12.

Alissa Melberg led the Tigers with eight kills. She also recorded one ace block and three digs.

Sara Beyer hit five kills, along with one ace block and one dig.

Heather Gagner led the Tigers with five ace serves and picked up seven digs.

Mary Rentz had four kills for the Tigers, along with one ace block, and five digs.

Erin Schieler had three kills, two ace blocks, and two digs.

Dani Staples hit two kills.

Jenna Nelson had two kills, one ace block, and led the team with 11 digs.

Kelsey Amundson picked up nine digs.

Brooke Anderson had seven digs and two ace serves.

Brianna Neuman recorded 19 set assists and two ace serves.

For the Thunder Hawks, Brooke Tastad had 21 kills and Beka Schwendemann followed with nine.

The Thunder Hawks got 38 set assists from Whitney Johnson and four ace blocks from Jaci Clauson.

Also on Friday night in Granite Falls, Yellow Medicine East defeated Redwood Valley 3-0.

Meanwhile, in Benson, Lac qui Parle Valley defeated BOLD 3-2 and Benson eliminated Minnewaska Area 3-0.

Montevideo advances to play Yellow Medicine East and Benson faces Lac qui Parle Valley in the semifinals.

The winners will play Thursday at Redwood Falls for the Section 3AA North championship.
