VFW now 7-0 in District

Ryan Beyer hit for the cycle and drove in five runs and Alex Erickson pitched a five-inning complete game to lead the Morris VFW baseball team to a 13-3 victory at Montevideo Tuesday. Morris improved to 7-0 in District 5 action, and 9-1 overall with the win.

Erickson did not give up an earned run, allowing four hits and one walk with four strikeouts.  

Morris scored one run in the top of the first when Erickson led off with a walk, stole second, and scored on a Beyer triple.

Morris put the game away in the third, scoring nine times. The big blows were a three-run homer by Beyer, a run-scoring double by Brady Valnes, RBI singles by Nate Gibson and Erickson, and a run-scoring triple by Tanner Berning. Morris added to their lead in the fourth when Cole Riley singled with one out, went to third on a Mitch Kill double, and they both scored on an Ethan Bruer single.

Beyer scored the final run of the game for Post 5039 when he singled in the fifth and eventually scored on a Cole Riley sacrifice fly.

Morris had 12 hits in the game and committed four errors in the field.

In the second game of the night, a three inning contest, Morris won by a score of 15-9. Kill was the winning pitcher, going the first two innings, and Beyer finished up in the third.

Offensively, Travis Rinkenberger went 3-for-3 and Cole Riley and Bruer each had two hits.

Evan Schultz had a huge game for Morris as well, going 2-for-2 with a walk, three runs scored, a triple, and four RBIs. 

Morris will play in a tournament at Minnewaska on Saturday and Sunday, playing at 10:00 am and 5:30 pm on Saturday; with Sundays' game time being decided on how the fare on Saturday. They then will host Ortonville on Tuesday, July 15th at Chizek Field and travel to Benson on Wednesday to close out the regular season.
