Eagles win 2

The Morris Eagles amateur baseball team added two more to the win column by defeating Chokio and Wheaton.

Sunday the Eagles face Dumont at Wheaton for first place in the Land O' Ducks Wood League. The Saints are half a game ahead of the Eagles in the standings. A win would give Morris the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the league playoffs.

There were nearly as many errors as hits June 27 when the Eagles defeated Chokio 9-4. Chokio made 10 errors and the Eagles committed three. Only four runs were earned of the combined 13 for the two ballclubs.

Chad Christianson got the start on the hill allowing no earned runs and striking out eight for the win.

Offensively, the Eagles jumped on Walleye starter Brandon Lennox in the third inning. Folie singled scoring a run and Kirby Marquart followed with a home run over the right field fence to score two. Carrington added a ground-rule double knocking in the fourth run of the inning.

In the fifth the Eagles erupted again. With the bases loaded and one out, Todd Hottovy doubled to clear the bases and later scored on a ground out to make it 8-0.

The Eagles closed the scoring in the ninth with a three-run homer by Carrington that bounced off the top of the fence. Carrington was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a triple short of the cycle.

Folie, Cory Marquart, Andy Lembcke, and Rob Sayles also had multiple hit games.
