Morris Area hosts golf meet

The Morris Area boys' golf team hosted its West Central Conference South meet Tuesday, postponed from April 29. The Tigers also competed at conference meets in Montevideo, Benson, Atwater, and Granite Falls.

At The Crossings in Montevideo May 1, the Tigers finished the meet in eighth place carding a 218.

First place went to Minnewaska Area posting a 173.

For the Tigers, Jordan Kolden carded a 48, Dylan Recker posted a 55, Otto Pyrhonen came in with a 57, and John Nissen's 58 rounded out the team score. Also golfing for the Tigers was Matt Cotter who carded a 76.

The medalist at Montevideo was Taylor Olson of Yellow Medicine East with a 40.

The Tigers broke 200 at Pine Island in Atwater May 5. Morris Area took seventh with a 184.

Minnewaska Area took first place in the fourth conference meet of the season with a 161.

For the Tigers Tyler Meichsner carded a 41, Corey O'Keefe posted a 44, Trevor Hopkins had a 47, and Kolden rounded out the team's score with a 52. Other Tiger results included Nissen's 57, Pyrhonen's 59, and Brandon Lanoue's 67.

Pierce Peters of Minnewaska took medalist honors with a 36.

The Tigers traveled to Glenwood on May 7 for a rescheduled conference meet.

Morris Area finished the day with a 191 for eighth place.

For the first time this season Minnewaska Area was defeated. Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg won the meet with a 166, nine strokes ahead of the Lakers.

The Tigers were led by Meichsner with a 43. O'Keefe posted a 47, Kolden carded a 50, and Pyrhonen had a 51. Other Tiger scores were Hopkins with a 55, Nissen with a 60, and Ed Ellson with a 64.

The meet's medalist was Ross Benjamin of the Braves with a 37.

On May 8 the conference met at Granite Falls. The Tigers finished with a 184 for eighth place.

Benson/KMS won its second straight meet with a 159.

For the Tigers Meichsner carded a 44, Hopkins posted a 45, O'Keefe had a 47, and Kolden finished with a 48. Other scores not used for the team score included Pyrhonen's 51, Ellson's 54, and Nissen's 55.

The medalist at Granite Run Golf Course was Peters, for the third time this season, with a 34.

When the Tigers hosted the conference on Tuesday, the wind chill was around the freezing point, but with no precipitation, the teams took to the course at Pomme de Terre Golf Club.

On their home course, the Tigers had their best finish of the season taking sixth with a 186.

Minnewaska Area returned to the top spot with a 163.

Two Tigers, Meichsner and Kolden, carded 45s. Hopkins was one stroke behind with a 46 and O'Keefe posted a 50. Pyrhonen was the only other Tiger on the course and he finished with a 56.

There was a three-way tie for medalist honors. Pierce Peters of Minnewaska, Bryce Steffel of BOLD, and Taylor Olson of Yellow Medicine East all carded a 39.
