Morris Public Library closed again next week

MORRIS – The Morris Public Library will be closed again next week after the scheduled asbestos abatement did not happen as planned.

The asbestos abatement is now scheduled for July 14 – 18, which means the building will be closed and all activity will be halted.

The library will reopen with limited hours and access beginning Monday, July 21, while other repair work is being done. The Viking Library System will resume delivery of requested materials on July 21.

During this construction period, the library will be staffed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, for patrons to pick up requested materials at the side entrance. There will be no evening hours until the library reopens.

The Friends of the Morris Public Library Book sale, which normally takes place during Prairie Pioneer Days, has been postponed until the library reopens.

A Viking Library System library card is valid at other area libraries and the Bookmobile makes stops around Stevens County. Other libraries the Viking Library System include Alexandria, Browns Valley, Elbow Lake, Fergus Falls, Glenwood, Hancock, New York Mills, Pelican Rapids, Perham, and Wheaton.

The University of Minnesota, Morris’ Briggs Library is also available to the public. Briggs Library has computer access and collections of adult and children’s books.

The library was closed for two weeks in June after water leaked in while a contractor was repairing the roof. More than 200 gallons of water were pulled from the carpets after the storm.
