Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

This issue is dedicated to the memory of my mom who passed away on March 14, 1994.

After umpteen weeks of bitterly cold weather temps have finally moderated and are forecasted to stay that way for the foreseeable future. Even we hardy Minnesotans have gotten tired of the cold.

St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: Lenten services will again alternate between Kongsvinger on March 12, March 26, April 9 and April 17 (Maundy Thursday) and St John’s on March 19, April 2 and April 18 (Good Friday) with coffee fellowship to follow. More details in upcoming columns.

The March newsletter is now out; extra copies are available in the back of both churches.

Due to frozen water pipes the Kongsvinger parish hall is closed until further notice.

KCLW will meet on March 13 at 11 a.m. Meetings are now on the second Thursday of each month.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church news:  Lenten services will be held every Wednesday at 7 p.m. until Holy Week. There are no suppers this year.

Weekly bible studies on the Augsburg Confession will be held on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. until after Easter. Everyone is welcome.

There will a community hymn sing at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. on March 9. This is the last one that has been scheduled, but if your church would like to participate in one, contact Ken or Linda Hodgson.

On March 16 the senior high youth will be having a basket auction and pancake breakfast to raise funds for a trip to Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp in Montana.  

West Central Homes will have their annual meeting on March 9 at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris at 1:30 p.m.

Assumption Catholic Church will have a St. Patrick’s Day dinner on March 16 at the church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will also have guest speakers during Lent, contact the church office for details.

Habitat for Humanity will have a pork chop supper fundraiser on March 10 at the Legion in Morris beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The Donnelly Community Club will have their annual meeting on March 10 beginning at 6:30 p.m. with meal to follow. Everyone is welcome. If you are unable to attend you may send you dues to Mary Werk at 22662 120th St. Herman, Minn. 56246. For more information call 320-795-2437 or 320-246-3337

Township meetings and elections will be held on March 11. Most meetings will be at 4:30 p.m. with elections to follow. Check with your town clerk or the county auditor/treasurer for times and places for your local township.

The Stevens County Historical Society will have their annual meeting on March 9 at the museum starting with a social hour at noon. Tickets and more information are available at the museum.

The followings couples have or are celebrating significant wedding anniversaries: Arven and Joan Graff and Chester and Gloria Larson, both 60 years; Kevin and Rhoda Asmus, 40 years.

Curt and Brooke Gillespie recently graduated from auctioneering school.

State Torch Award winners at the recent regional Business Professionals of America meeting included Carly Gullickson, Beth Holland, John and Justine Hubener and Brady Jergenson. Beth Holland will receive her State FFA Degree and was named the Region III Star in Agri-business. You can read about other awards Donnelly area kids won on my blog at

In the past week Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended Bible study and Ash Wednesday services at Good Shepherd, Mark and I helped with NAPS distribution, and afterwards we took a box up to the Sunrise Apartments and stayed to visit with my aunt Pearl for a while.
