MORRIS – On Thursday, July 18 the Stevens County Historical Society held a dedication ceremony for a sculpture donated by Dr. Ralph and Ruth Wells the memory of former Morris resident Barbara Cumming Wells, Dr. Wells’ first wife.

Barbara, daughter of Dr. John and Helen Cumming, grew up in Morris and graduated with the Morris Area High School class of 1950. While at nursing school at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, Barbara met Ralph and married him in 1956.

Although the couple spent most of their lives in San Antonio, TX, Barbara’s ashes are buried at her father’s grave in Morris and Dr. Wells said her heart remained in Stevens County.

Several of Barbara’s classmates attended the dedication and shared memories of their time with her. Ruth Block, the sculptor, is an Israeli artist with work exhibited around the world. The sculpture will be placed in the foyer of the Stevens County Museum.
