Virginia Martin

Virginia (Ginny) Martin was born in Morris on March 10, 1923. She was often found climbing silos or riding down the sling of the haymow. Receiving a 22 caliber rifle for her tenth birthday, her cousins would often comment on hearing 22s zinging through the trees every once in a while. Her childhood nickname was "Toots" the name of her cousin's pony which he would let her ride during the summer. After high school she attended and graduated from Hamline University in St. Paul in 1946. Through a friend she got a job in the Northern California city of Oakland where she worked as a Medical Technician at Merritt Hospital.

The city of Oakland is where she met and married her husband of 47 years, Dale Martin. While in Oakland their first son, Dale was born. Sadly, his twin brother didn't make it. Seeking better employment, Virginia and Dale moved to a rented apartment in the Los Angeles suburb of Venice. It was there that Casey, their second son was born.

Wanting a home of their own, they soon drove down to Orange County (which at the time was still very rural and undeveloped) and bought their one and only house together in Buena Park where she lived for the past 53 years. It was there that their twin sons Adrian and Brian were born. Virginia went back to work as a Medical Technician and was employed by Saint Jude Hospital for 25 years, retiring in the mid 1980s.

She enjoyed many activities such as sewing, playing the piano and organ, camping in their motor home, riding motorcycles, target shooting in the desert and traveling.

Virginia was a very religious woman. She always made sure she and her sons went to church. First, the Congregation-alist Church in Buena Park, then, after being taught by Ward missionaries, was baptized in 1967 into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served faithfully in many church callings.

Virginia died Jan. 12, 2010.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dale; her parents Paul and Agnes Aanerud Andert; and stepmother, Doline Murray Andert.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Dale Andert (Margarite), Casey Paul, Adrian Paul, Brian Charles (Susan); her grandchildren, Candice (Ryan) Nelson, Erick Paul, Greg (Brianna), Tracy Eileen, Rachel (Austin) Robinson, Andie, Derek Scott, Jeffery Steven and Stephanie Rachelle; her sisters, Ann Marie Bowman and Polly Dee Hedstrom; and many nieces and nephews.
