On Tuesday, the Tigers lost a close game to host team Brandon-Evansville 5-4.

The Tigers got on the board first with a base hit by Becca Holland, scoring on a RBI single by Abbie Olson, but the Chargers answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to go up 3-1.

MA/C-A tied the game at 3-3 in the third with Holland reaching on a walk, stealing second, and scoring on a passed ball, and Lauren Reimers hit an in the park home run to deep center field to tie the game at three.

“Lauren hit the ball solid with that hit. It picked us up offensively and put us back in the game,” head coach Mary Holmberg said.

Not for long though as the Tigers gave up two runs in the fifth inning to trail 5-3.

Coach Holmberg said the Tigers had their chances in the seventh inning, but came up short. Lacee Maanum led off with a base hit, Sam Henrichs and Holland both reached on an error with zero outs.

“At that point, I thought we could come back, but Brandon-Evansville defense and pitching were both solid, so we only rallied one run,” Holmberg said.

Olson went 2-for-4 batting cleanup for the Tigers.

“Abbie came through in the cleanup position and hit the ball hard,” Holmberg said.

Kayla Pring recorded 10 strikeouts, allowing just one hit.

“Kayla threw well for the first game of the season. We made some nice defensive plays to back her up, but they got that hit and capitalized when bases were loaded,” Holmberg said.

Pitcher Kayla Pring and the Morris/Chokio-Alberta defense held off BOLD in the late innings to open its West Central Conference softball schedule with a 5-4 victory on Thursday, April 10 in Olivia.

Morris took an early 2-0 in the top of the first.

Holland got on with a walk, then Reimers tripled to score Holland, and additional hits by Abby Daly and Lacee Maanum helped Reimers score to allow the Tigers to jump out ahead.

“We were very aggressive in the first inning. All of our hits were solid,” Holmberg said.

MA/C-A added two more runs in the second inning to go up 4-0.

Holland reached on an error, scoring on a base hit by Reimers. The Tigers second run of the inning came when Henrichs reached on an error, stole second, took third on a bunt by Holland, and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Reimers.

After that the Tigers saw the score trimmed to one in the Warriors’ three-run third, but allowed just one run the final four innings to eke out the 5-4 win.

Pring worked a complete game, allowing two earned runs and striking out nine.

“Kayla threw the ball very well, again, and kept her composure in the sixth and seventh innings, and catcher Brooke Johnson played an important role working well with Kayla and calling a good game,” Holmberg added.

The Warriors were hurt by four errors defensively and stranding eight baserunners on offense.

MA/C-A’s Lauren Reimers was 2-for-4, including a triple, and she drove in three runs and scored twice.

“Lauren has been a terrific addition to our team both offensively and defensively,” Holmberg said.
