Theodore Waskosky

Theodore Waskosky, age 93 of Elbow Lake, died on Monday, Aug. 17, 2009 at the Pioneer Care Center in Fergus Falls. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009 at Nidaros Lutheran Church in rural Clitherall with Pastor Harry Olson officiating. Music is provided by violinist: Mary Waskosky; organist: Diane Bjerketvedt; and vocalists: Chris Christopherson and Marge Naylor. Casketbear-ers are: Kyle Waskosky, Ben Waskosky, Carter Griffith, Jason Endreson, T. J. Waskosky, and Mike Waskosky. The Belmont Funeral Home in Henning is in charge of arrangements.

Theodore Julius Waskosky was born to Theodore Ferdinand and Lulu Beatrice (Eggelston) Waskosky in Faribault on July 7, 1916. Ted attended school in Henning until the age of 13. He then went to work as a well driller with his father. Ted had a time of employment at the US Postal Service in Vining. Ted retired as a well driller in the village of Erdahl. He married Helen Christine Anderson on Aug. 25, 1941 in Brownton. They were married for 65 years before Helen passed away on Jan. 5, 2007. Of this union four children were born, one girl and three boys. Ted joined the US Army on July 10, 1942. He belonged to Company A of the 97th Signal battalion. During his military tour, he served time in central Europe in Rhineland, Germany and the Ardennes region of France as a cable splicer during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star and a medal of good conduct. Ted served on various boards throughout his life, including the Minnesota Water Well Association and Park Region Telephone Co., and was an active member of the American Legion. He learned to water ski when in his 40s, which was one of his great accomplishments. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid whist player and loved to throw horseshoes. He enjoyed dancing-especially square dancing with Helen. Ted and Helen also enjoyed traveling and spent several winters in Arizona after retiring. Ted's greatest joy was playing his fiddle for family and friends.

Ted is survived by his daughter: Phi Lohre (Marvin) Griffith, Minneapolis; sons: Tee (Tammy) Waskosky, Erdahl, Mark Waskosky, Fergus Falls, and Shedd (Kristine) Waskosky, Salasaca, Ecuador; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and sisters: Myrtle Leitch, Underwood, Rose Thorson, Henning, and Doris (Harold) Brekke, Billings, Mont.; He is preceded in death by his wife: Helen; parents; and brothers: Roy, Woodrow, Clifford, and Martin.
