Roy Johnson

Roy Johnson, 93, Hoffman, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Society-Hoffman. Funeral services for Roy Johnson will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at First Lutheran Church in Kensington with the Rev. Kathryn Rothman officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Kensington. Visitation will be held from 5-7 on Saturday, April 9, at the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Hoffman.

Roy was born on a farm in near Elbow on March 6, 1918, to Aamon "Bob" and Anna (Wiese) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christ Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod Lutheran Church) in rural Elbow Lake, attended country school through the 8th grade and completed one year of high school. Roy learned to play the violin at an early age and loved helping his dad on the farm.

He married Dorothy Lorraine Lohse on Sept. 11, 1938, at Christ Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake. The couple rented a 160-acre farm near Elbow Lake from his Uncle Henry. There they raised three children: Richard, Linda and Leonard. In 1950, they bought their own farm near Kensington. They were happy, prosperous and very active in the community - church council, Sunday school, creamery board, township board, insurance board of directors.

Roy and Dorothy enjoyed family and friends, and Roy continued to enjoy his favorite hobbies, playing violin and horses. He retired in March 25, 1991.

Dorothy passed away on Oct. 19, 2002, and Roy stayed very active with his music, playing at area nursing homes, and fishing. Roy lived his last years at the Good Samaritan Society-Hoffman still playing the violin and enjoying frequent card games with his many friends. Mostly, he loved to visit--he loved people and people loved him.

Roy is survived by his children: Richard (Phyllis) Johnson of Crystal, Linda (Dennis) Dahl of Morris, and Leonard (Nancy) Johnson of Broomfield, CO; nine grandchildren: Lori (Phil) Scharmamn, Mark (Dana) Johnson, Steve (Tracy) Johnson, Scott (Tanya) Johnson, Sherry (Kevin) Wohlers, Jeanne (Scott) Knutson, Michelle (Bret) Anderson, Derek Johnson, and Spencer Porter; 14 great-grandchildren: Annie Scharmamn, Sam and Jack Johnson, Holly and Roy Johnson, Cayla, Madeline, and Emily Johnson, Kayla (Aaron) Erdahl, Matt Wohlers, Kyle, Karly and Tyler Knutson, and Tyler Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Good Samaritan Society-Hoffman, First Lutheran Church in Kensington, or the donor's choice.

In lieu of individual acknowledgements, the family will give an additional donation to the Good Samaritan Society-Hoffman.
