Roberta Joann Miller Opyt, 80, of Lafayette, IN died at 7:28 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2014 at the IU Health Arnett Hospital. She was born February 27, 1933 in Frankfort, IN. She was the daughter for the late Chester and Hazel (Stowers) Gunion. Joann was raised in Frankfort, IN, lived in Brookston, IN, Cody, WY, Hancock, MN and Lafayette, IN.

Joann worked as a housekeeper for Radison Hotel and St. Anthony's Nursing Home. She enjoyed the flowers on her deck, ceramics, and was a member of the VFW.

Surviving with her husband John Opyt, are one son Michael (Cheryl) Miller of Hancock, MN, two daughters Susan (Allen) Benson of Hancock, MN and Cindy (Lloyd) Beyer of Holloway, MN, one stepson Bob (Kim) Opyt of Morris, IN, one sister Lola (Richard) Miller of Lafayette, IN, three brothers Larry Gunion of Lafayette, IN, Jerry (Carol) Gunion of West Lafayette, IN, and Steve (RuthAnn) Coffman of Tennessee. 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 1 step-great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by her mother Hazel (Stowers) Gunion, her father Chester Gunion, her first husband Raymond H. Miller, sister Jean Conkright, and sister-in-law Liz Gunion.

Visitation was held one hour prior to a 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2014 service at Hippensteel Chapel. Reverend Dr. Clayton Kendall officiated. Burial followed at Tippe Canoe Memory Gardens.
