The Morris Legion Post 29 baseball team remains undefeated after two wins in the Division II, District 7 North playoffs. The Two-Niners ended their regular season on Thursday, July 10 in a doubleheader against Hancock in Morris. Then Post 29 played in the Prairie Pioneer Days tournament on Saturday and Sunday, July 12-13 as a warm up for post season play that began on Monday, July 14 against West Central Area.

Morris Legion pounded out a season high 11 hits and scored a season high 16 runs on its way to taking the first game of a doubleheader against Hancock at Chizek Field Thursday night 16-7.

Ethan Stahman led the offense with two hits and drove in five runs. Robert Rohloff had three RBI. Brady Jergenson, Sean Amundson, and Nick Solvie each had two hits.

Brandon Shaw led Hancock with three RBI.

In game two, Morris scored five times in the first on the way to a 6-3 win and the sweep.

Morris (8-5) invoked the 10-run rule by scoring three runs without getting an out in the fifth inning. The win advanced the No. 5 seed to today’s second round where they will play at No. 4 New London-Spicer at 7 p.m.

Morris scored three runs in four innings and was paced offensively by Bryce Jergenson’s two doubles, a triple and three RBI. Jergenson also scored three times and Riley Biesterfeld added a triple and two singles that resulted in two RBI.

Brady Jergenson worked all five innings on the mound to earn the win, striking out seven and scattering four hits without giving up an earned run or a walk.

Morris 4, New London-Spicer 3

Riley Biesterfeld hit a bases-clearing, three-run double and Noah Grove went the distance as Morris beat New London-Spicer 4-3 on Tuesday in the Division II, District 7 North playoffs.

Morris (9-5) scored its first run on a third-inning throwing error.

It would stay 1-0 until the fifth when Biesterfield doubled to the left-center gap with two outs to give Morris a 4-0 lead.

NLS (5-6) nearly came back, scoring two quick runs in the bottom of the seventh off Grove.

With two on and two out, Ryan Vraa doubled to deep left which appeared to drive in the third and fourth runs, but the ball wedged under the fence for a ground-rule double — and only one run scored.

Given new life, Grove struck the next batter out to end the game.

Bryce Jergenson was 2-for-4 with a double, and Grove had a hit and scored twice.

Winning pitcher Grove fanned 10 and allowed two earned runs.

No. 5-seed Morris next plays 6 p.m. Thursday, July 17 at No. 1-seed Osakis.

No. 4-seed NLS will play No. 9-seed Wheaton on Thursday at Spicer.
