Marie Sims

Funeral services for Marie Sims of Morris will be held Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Reverend Dell Sanderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Burial will be in Cyrus South Cemetery, rural Cyrus.

Marie Titania Horbal, daughter of Stephen and Kathryn (Wasnick) Horbal, was born August 18, 1927 in Minneapolis. Marie grew up in Anoka, where she attended and graduated from Anoka High School. Following her schooling, she worked at Western Union and Daytons in Minneapolis. On June 28, 1952, she was united in marriage to Wesley William Sims. To this union five children were born: Twins Doug & Dave, Julie, Lori and Rob. Following their marriage the couple lived in Anoka, the Morris/Cyrus area and Detroit Lakes. Following the death of her husband, Wesley, Marie moved back to Morris, where she has continued to live until the time of her death.

Marie was an incredible artist, winning awards for her paintings and drawings, she also enjoyed sewing, crafts, antiquing, and flower gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Marie died on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at West Wind Village in Morris, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 83 years.

She is survived by four children: Douglas (Patsy) Sims of Hutchinson, Julie (Mark) Dingman of Sartell, Lori (Lynn) Boots of Morris and Rob (Cindy) Sims of Detroit Lakes; eight grandchildren: David Sims, Corey Sims, Jenny (Jason) Foster, Andrea Dingman, Jeff Boots, Angie (Ryan) Smith, Travis Sims and Tony Sims; six great-grandchildren: Rohn Sims, Allyssa Sims, Mitchell Sims, Maiji Wolfe, Kailey Wente and Hunter Smith; four siblings: Gus Horbal of Robbinsdale, Gen Burns of Crystal, Gerry Holcombe of Fort Collins, CO and Betty Moore of Venice, CA and several nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her parents: Stephen and Kathryn Horbal, her husband, Wesley, her son, David, son-in-law, Dallas Wente, granddaughter, Rochelle Sims. Sisters, Eve Heubach, Ann Semotuk, Jessie Sweney and brother, Mike Horbal.

Pallbearers for the service are: Jeff Boots, Travis Sims, Tony Sims, Jason Foster and Ryan Smith. Honorary pallbearers are David Sims, Corey Sims, Jenny Foster, Angie Smith and Andrea Dingman. Rita Lambert will serve as organist for the service with Jere Solvie serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
