Lots to do over the fourth in Hancock

There is a full schedule of events for the July 4 celebration in Hancock this weekend. The majority of events will take place on Friday but a few events are planned for Thursday night.

Starting at 7 p.m. at the school, the Little Miss Hancock program will feature six young girls in grades 3-5 performing for the audience and the new Little Miss Hancock will be announced. At 9 p.m. that night there will be a live band at Buddies. The band ‘Electric Almighty’ will be performing until 1 a.m. Buddies will have a sober cab available for rides that night.

Friday will dawn early for many. While the Hancock Firemen are stirring up the pancake batter, the 5K runners and walkers will be lining up at Page Lake. The Run/Walk will begin with registration at 7:30 a.m. The Firemen’s Pancake Feed will begin at 7 a.m. and run until 9:30 a.m. at the Fire Hall. The Little League All-Star game will begin at 10 a.m. and be followed by a Home Run Derby. At 11 a.m. Community Development Bank will hold their annual coin dig by the school playground.

Over the noon hour you can picnic in the park by enjoying some of the food being served up by the Horton 4-H and Buddies at the Water Tower Park. The Lions Club will be selling popcorn and other treats along the parade route. The Hancock Commercial Club will have an inflatible at the park for children to enjoy before and after the parade.

Line up for the Kiddie Parade will start at 12:30 p.m. with the parade starting at 1:00. This parade will start at the water tower and finish at the end of main street. This will be followed by the main parade set to begin at 1:30 starting at the school. If you have a parade entry please contact Justin Cronen at or 392-5109 or Joel Flaten at or 392-5278. The Lions would love to have even more participates in the parade. “Ignite the Spirit of Freedom” is the theme of this year’s parade and celebration.

Several activities are planned after the parade. You can relax and enjoy Blue Grass Jam at the Della Conroy Art Studio, located across from the ballpark. Bring your own lawn chair to enjoy this music. The studio will also be open for tours.

The annual tractor pull will start at 3 p.m. across from Trico. At Buddes there will be bean bag and volleyball tournaments. Teams can sign up at the bar before or after the parade. Later that evening Buddies will have Good Times DJ entertining the crowd.

At dusk, which is approximately 10 p.m., the Hancock Fire Department will be shooting off fireworks from the ballpark marking the end of the festivities.
