Supporting school lunch

The school lunch program has recently entered into a new political arena with federal nutrition standards to ensure that meals are healthy and well balanced. This includes caloric limits, portion sizes and fruit and vegetable offerings.

Last week, Morris Area Elementary School hosted Bring your Parent to Lunch week, which was an excellent opportunity to see what our children are offered at school. Despite the challenging demands of meeting these new standards, the Morris Area School district is taking a proactive approach in educating families and guiding students.

In support of their effort, the Family School Partnership is hosting an informational parent meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Elementary school cafeteria. Jeanine Bowman, Food Service Director, will provide more information and a sampling of what's on the lunch menu. If you'd like to learn more about what these guidelines mean for children in our community, we encourage you to attend.

Where is the outrage?

Every product, commodity, and each dollar earned is taxed multiple times. A loaf of bread contained 151 taxes. Shouldn't our country be swimming in money?

Our country is $16,000,000,000,000 in debt. If you count one dollar bills at the rate of one per second for 40 hours per week, it would take two million, one hundred thirty six plus years to count.

Where is the outrage?
