Don't leave

pets behind

The Stevens Community Humane Society would like to remind our community that if anyone has a pet that they can no longer care for or afford, they should please call us and surrender the pet to us for adoption.

In the past month we have had two calls from landlords telling us that they have found pets that have been left behind by tenants who have had to move because of foreclosure or eviction. We realize that these are hard economic times, but please do not leave your pet or pets behind! We, the Stevens Community Humane Society, will take your pets and put them up for adoption if you call us! Our number is (320) 589-0378. We will place your pet in foster care in our community until a permanent adoptive home can be found.

Recently we have taken in rabbits, ferrets, cats and dogs that were left behind by tenants in our community. Again, we encourage you to have compassion and call us, rather than leave any pet behind! Thank you.

Food Share Month

March is Food Share Month, and this year's theme is "Be a Super Hero" in Minnesota's fight against hunger.

In 2009, the Stevens County Food Shelf served more than 2,500 people and gave out almost 73,000 pounds of food. With cash donations, we purchase food from the stores in the area and from the North Country Food Bank in Crookston.

For the 13th consecutive year, Alan Shawn Feinstein will divide $1 million among anti-hunger agencies nationwide, using it as a spur to raise funds during March and April. So the more you give, the more of his $1 million the Food Shelf will get -- thanks to you!

We are so grateful to all of you who are so generous and give us such wonderful support. Because of you, we can keep our shelves full and people will not go hungry.

Donations can be made at the Food Shelf during open hours: Monday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; and Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Or you can send cash donations to Stevens County Food Shelf at 701 Iowa Ave., Morris, MN, 56267. Anyone with questions can call (320) 589-1691 or (320) 589-3872.
