Letter: Take the time to say thanks

May is National Foster Care Month and Stevens County Human Services would like to take this opportunity to thank our child foster care families for the work they do in caring for Stevens County's children and families. By opening their homes, sharing their hearts and giving hope to children and families, these foster care parents play a vital role in helping to heal children and families in crisis.

All children deserve a safe, happy life—including the more than 400,000 American youth currently in foster care. In Stevens County, developing an adequate number of child foster care homes to meet the varied backgrounds and needs of children entering foster care continues to be a priority and a definite need in our community.

Being a foster parent can be a challenging and a rewarding experience. Being able to help a child through a difficult time is a very gratifying experience. Foster parents strive to offer the best care possible for the children in their care; not only during Foster Care Month but on a day-to-day basis.

If you know a family providing foster care, please take a moment to thank them for helping to make a difference in the life of the children in our community. Please take time this month to consider making an investment in not only Minnesota's future but our own community's future by becoming a part of the child foster care program. For more information about becoming a licensed foster parent, please contact Stevens County Human Services at 320-208-6600.
