Kenneth Evink

Funeral services for Kenneth Evink of Hancock, MN will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hancock Christian Reformed Church in Hancock. Rev. Harrison Newhouse will be officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock. Military rites will be provided by the Minnesota Army National Guard.

Kenneth Koert Evink, son of Koert and Jacoba (DeVries) Evink, was born January 14, 1926 in Bejou, Minnesota, where he grew up and was baptized on November 30, 1926 at the Christian Reformed Church by Rev. Dykstra and made his Profession of Faith on Nov. 9, 1947 at the Hancock Christian Reformed Church by Rev. VanZee. Kenneth attended grade school in Bejou and later graduated from Mahnomen High School. On Dec. 20, 1944, Kenneth was drafted into the United States Army Infantry Division, where he served in WWII until September, 1946, when he received an honorable discharge. Following his discharge, Kenneth drove truck for the Hancock Creamery for one year. On Feb. 15, 1949, he was united in marriage to Audrey Anna Noordmans at the Hancock Christian Reformed Church by Rev. VanZee. The couple made their home in Hancock, where Kenneth began working as an electricians apprentice for Dalager Electric for five years and later went to work for Braaten Electric for several years. Kenneth also operated a small farm and worked as an electrician and boilerman at the University of Minnesota, Morris for the next 16 years, retiring in 1989.

Kenneth was a member of the Hancock Christian Reformed Church, where he served on the church council, taught Sunday school and Catechism and was the church custodian with Audrey. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, bicycling and trapping gophers. He loved singing, playing and listening to music.

Kenneth died on Sunday, July 25, 2011 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, Minn, having lived to reach the age of 85.

He is survived by his wife: Audrey Evink of Hancock; seven children: David (Melinda) Evink of Hancock, Donald (Helen) Evink of Hospers, Iowa, Carol (Donald) Boon of Hancock, MaryJo (Terry) Wickstrom of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Linda (Timothy) Kreps of Rogers, Lois (Allen) Kennard of Willmar and Beth (David) Bentrud of Rice; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; siblings: Margaret VanderPlaats of Hancock, Bernard (Kathy) Evink of Allendale, Mich., Harold (Claire) Evink of Park Rapids and Lowell (Carol) Evink of Hancock, one sister-in-law: Anna Mae Evink, Hancock and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Rena, Wilma, Carol, Conrad, Joyce, Wallace and Corrine.
