Jamis Burnett is Hancock’s New Year’s baby

Jamis Chad Burnett, Hancock’s 2014 New Year’s baby, was welcomed by his parents, Cari and Matthew Burnett, and brother, Jacoby, along with the community of Hancock and several area businesses.

Jamis Chad Burnett came into this world on Jan. 31 and became the 2014 Hancock New Year’s baby. He is the second son of Matthew and Cari Burnett of Hancock. Jamis has an older brother, Jacoby, who is 19 months old.

Jamis also arrived with a challenging future due to some movement problems discovered through an ultra sound during the pregnancy. Due to this discovery, Jamis was born at Children’s Hospital and will be undergoing long-term treatments and therapy. He spent several days in the NIC unit and will need follow-up visits regularly to stretch and loosen muscles. Next week he will go to Gillette Hospital and have casts put on his legs. He will then follow up every ten days with therapy and brace adjustments.

Matthew and Cari moved to Hancock in May of 2012. Matthew grew up on a farm near Alberta where he continues to work. Cari grew up in Moorhead and the two met at Southwest State in Marshall. They were married in 2010.

Jamis is the 13th grandchild for George and Becky Burnett of Alberta and number three for Chad and Diane Zitzow of Moorhead. He has several aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of the family.

With all the health issues Jamis is facing, Matthew and Cari are especially pleased to receive the wonderful gifts from area businesses. Matthew commented that it is so nice to know you have the support of your community. They appreciate every gift and added that is was nice to be part of a community that will do all this for you.
