Helen Moen

Funeral services for 83 year old Helen Anna Moen will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church in Madison with Kirk Meseck officiating at the service. Special music will be provided by Linda Anderson, organist and Nancy Moen, soloist and Karen Moen as pianist. Honorary casket bearers included Rachel Moen, Katie Genereux,, Erica Wurm, Alyssa Hannah, Mitchell Cooke, Jake Moen, Becky Behrens; Active casket bearers included; Beth Kaufman, Cris Moen, Kileigh Hannah-Woggen, Andrew Moen, Laura Sutton, Mollie Cooke.

Helen Anna Sjolie was born on Feb. 17, 1927 to Henry and Ruth Enger Sjolie at Garfield Township near Madison. She was baptized and confirmed at Garfield Lutheran Church. Helen attended country school at District 83 Garfield Township. She graduated from Madison High School in 1945. After graduation, she worked for the County School Superintendent.

She married Milton Moen on March 26, 1946 at 1st Lutheran Church in Madison. To this union six children were born. Her family was truly her pride and joy. As the family grew, she embraced them all. The joys continued as she opened her arms to grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She loved attending her children and grandchildren's functions, particularly sporting events. She continued to be an avid sports fan as she watched her favorite teams, the Twins and the Gophers.

She was an active member in Borgund Church, serving on various committees, teaching Sunday school and as a member of the Ladies Aide.

She re-entered the workforce when her youngest child started school. She worked as a bookkeeper at Renco Gas Company, Great Plain Lumber Company, and D & C Chevrolet in Appleton until her retirement.

She loved to quilt. Each quilt had a special purpose whether for a new family birth, a graduation or a wedding. She was always ready to play a game of bridge, and she loved to read.

Helen is survived by her husband Milton; her children Dennis (Nancy) Moen of South Haven; Myron (Carol) Moen of Annandale; Charlotte (Skip) Zielin of Fergus Falls; Richard (Kathy) Moen of Alexandria; Valerie (Bob) Cooke of Eagan; Victor (Audrey) Moen of Grand Rapids; 14 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Stella Chester of Madison; Verna Gillis of Castle Rock, Colo.; two brothers, Rev. James (Sylvia) Sjolie of Duluth, and Harold (Joyce) Sjolie of Reno, Nev.

She was preceded in death of her parents Henry and Ruth Sjolie, brothers Vernald, Grant (in infancy), and a sister Lorraine Heyne.

She will be missed by her many friends and her family.
