Harold E. Meiss, 94, of Washington, formerly of Cissna Park, Ill., and Hancock, Minn., passed away at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.

He was born June 16, 1918, in Cissna Park to Gustav and Bertha (Grusy) Meiss. He married Ann M. Zeltwanger on April 15, 1945, in Morris, Minn. She preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 2011. He also was preceded in death by one grandson, Charles; one brother; and three sisters.

Surviving are one daughter, Carole (Ron) Kellenberger of Metamora; three sons, Ron (Julie) Meiss of Phoenix, Ariz., Richard (Barbara) Meiss of Excelsior, Minn., and James (Candace) Meiss of Austin, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Roy (Shari) Meiss of Ind.; and two sisters, Irene Rinkenberger of Eureka and Verena Knapp of Bloomington. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews who were very dear to him.

Harold farmed in Hancock, Minn., for 33 years. Along with farming, he enjoyed other business pursuits including: Hi-Line Chicken Dealer, Pioneer Seed Corn Dealer, working at several farm implement stores, being the Hodges Township Assessor and working for funeral homes.

The Washington Apostolic Christian Church completed building the Congregate Living units in 1998, where Harold and Ann were among the first to move in and enjoy a new home.

After moving to Illinois, Harold worked for D.A. Hoerr nursery and Mangold Ford.

He was a member of the Washington Apostolic Christian Church, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, with church ministers officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 3, at the Goodfield Apostolic Christian Fellowship Hall, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at the Washington Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.

Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.
