Doris was born to Herman and Alma (McLaughlin) Muehler on Jan. 30, 1936 in Wahpeton, N.D. She grew up and attended schools in Fairmount graduating in 1954. She married Arlo Huelsman on June 26, 1954 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Foxhome. From that point forth they made their home in Foxhome, raising their six children there. Doris was civic minded, helping in many ways around her community and church. She was a Campfire Girls leader, Cub Scout and 4-H leader, a volunteer on the Foxhome Fire Dept., was on church council for St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was a member of St. Mary's Mission Circle. One of her greatest joys in life was raising her children and being active in their lives. But when they left home, she began working at Minn-Dak Sugar Beet Plant and also worked at 4-Seasons Plant Center.

In her spare time, Doris loved to garden, enjoyed canning and was especially famous for her pickles. She was a great cook and was an accomplished seamstress. She welcomed the times she could go traveling and do some fishing. It has been said that she could out fish all those in her family. She had an open door policy for her children and their friends.
