The funeral for Darrel C. Pieske, of Cyrus, Minnesota will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, with Minister Minette Stalheim Johnson officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be at the Lakeside Cemetery, Hancock.

Darrel Clarence Pieske, son of Leonard and LaMae (Lackie) Pieske, was born September 16, 1937 in Rural Wanda, Minnesota in Willow Lake Township. Darrel began his schooling at School District #16 in Horton Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. He graduated from Hancock High School on June 1, 1955. In December of 1955, Darrel moved to California to work in a machine shop making hydraulic landing gears for airplanes. He returned to Minnesota in April of 1957 where he started working for the Hancock Lumberyard and later for Ben Greiner Construction. On May 23, 1964, he was united in marriage to Peggy Keller. The couple moved to Red Wing, Minnesota in September of 1965 where Darrel was hired as an assistant manager of Top Lumber. In June of 1975, Darrel, Peggy and their children moved to Cyrus, Minnesota. From 1975 to 1979, Darrel and Peggy owned and operated The Lariat. After the sale of The Lariat, Darrel was a self-employed carpenter and raised livestock on the farm. He continued this type of work until February of 2013 when his health started failing.

Darrel was a member of the Cyrus Trinity Lutheran Church. He loved to play cards, drink coffee and spend time with his family and friends.

Darrel died on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at his home in Cyrus having lived to reach the age of 76 years.

He is survived by his wife: Peggy Pieske of Cyrus; his children: Jay (Vicki) Pieske of Cyrus, Kim (Tim) Firstbrook of Rochester, MN; 6 grandchildren: 5 grandsons (Jordan, Cameron, Dalton Pieske and Spencer and Cullen Firstbrook) and 1 granddaughter (Emma Firstbrook); one loving sister: LeAnn (Dennis) Bye of Hancock; sister-in-law: Joanne Pieske of Shakopee, MN and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Leonard and LaMae; three brothers: Arlan Pieske, Dean Pieske and James Pieske.
