Cougar men post 28-point victory
The University of Minnesota, Morris men's basketball team hosted North Central Tuesday at the P. E. Center and picked up a 97-69 non-conference win.
Both teams entered the game with overall records of 4-9.
After North Central came out to a 12-2 lead, Cougar coach Paul Grove substituted five fresh reserves who responded with a 9-0 run to get the Cougars back in the game.
The Cougars made 11 of 16 three-pointers on their way to a 57-38 halftime lead.
The Cougars' hot shooters for the first half were Kendall Proell, Eric Dalbey, and Ryan Denny. The trio had a combined 10 three pointers in the half to combine for 32 of the team's 57 points.
The Cougars continued to put points on the board in the second half and stepped up on the defensive end to limit the Rams' scoring.
With the game under control halfway through the second half, Grove went to his bench to give his young players some valuable playing time.
The team was led in scoring by Dalbey and Denny who finished with 17 and 14, respectively.
The Cougars shot a season-high 62.5 percent from the field.
They return to action this weekend with conference road games at Crown College on Friday and Northwestern on Saturday.
