Area Weather: Spring is definitely on the way here
It has been a great week across the entire state of
Minnesota. On Wednesday, portions of northeast Minnesota reached the mid 40s for highs! Alexandria meanwhile hit 26 for a high. Just to the north in Brainerd they hit a beautiful 35 degrees for a high. However, spots from Morris, Willmar, and Fergus Falls struggled to make it into the 20s. Morris only hit 15 degrees for a high. That just shows you how fickle Minnesota weather can be this time of the year.
By the way, the record high on this date in Alexandria was 50 degrees set back in 1981. I remember that year very well. I went out cross-country skiing that day and we did it in t-shirts as we were working up a sweat out at Sibley State Park near New London. In contrast, however, the record low on this day was 20 below zero set back just two years ago.
I know many of you have been having fun snowmobiling and skiing this winter. Keep in mind we are only about a month away from the first day of spring. Hang in there and enjoy the winter weather, and have a great weekend!
In 1928 a dust storm moved across Minnesota. Lights had to be turned on in the day time in the Twin Cities metro area and across other parts of the state!
The fastest speed a falling raindrop can hit you is 18 mph!
