The West Central School of Agriculture Alumni Association will hold its summer All-School Reunion on Sat., July 18, at the University of Minnesota, Morris Student Center.
The reunion features a brunch, a dinner, an annual meeting and a bus tour of the campus, the West Central Research and Outreach Center and the community of Morris.
Open to all alumni, the reunions are held every year and typically enjoy a good crowd. The largest turnout for the 2009 All-School Reunion is expected from members of classes celebrating milestone reunions, such as the Class of 1959 celebrating their 50th reunion, the Class of 1954 celebrating their 55th reunion and the Class of 1949 celebrating their 60th reunion.
Planning is also underway for special celebrations to be held next year. In 2010, the WCSA will celebrate 100 years since its founding and UMM will celebrate 50 years since its founding. During the 2009 All-School Reunion, 50/100 celebration co-chairs Andy and Dian Lopez, professors emeriti of computer science, will inform WCSA alumni on plans for next year's 2010 celebration. And Dennis Johnson, West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) professor of animal science and WCSA Class of 1958 alumnus, will update reunion attendees on WCROC activities being planned for the 50/100 celebration.
The reunion for WCSA alumni is an important Morris campus tradition. Carla Riley, director of alumni relations and annual giving, said she always looks forward to the event.
"It's a pleasure to welcome WCSA alumni back to campus for the annual summer All-School Reunion," Riley said. "It is very rewarding to see lifelong friendships renewed and to witness the warm, familial atmosphere that shows when WCSA alumni come together in the place that first formed and shaped those connections. I feel honored to be part of their day."
